It’s a rainy day. Everyone is in a rush to get to work. Things aren’t perfect for a morning commute. But to experience a hit and run is the last thing on my mind. Should I follow/chase them? Can’t turn around!! Should I call the police? They were long gone! How much damage did I get? Pull over and check it out at the Zoo. Drivable, okay! Head into work and deal with it there.
So, now I am at work and called the non-emergency police number. After six phone calls I get to the DC based Park Police. They were awesome. If I come in within 48 hours they will give me a police report for my insurance. Whew. I thought I missed the opportunity to get a police report. So, off to the park police today or tomorrow morning.
This is the third hit and run I have experienced in my life. Do I have a sign on my forehead? How can I remove it? I did run, I mean race, after the second one in my life. It was like “fast and furious” around town. But, finally caught up with the guy and he was in tears. (Yep, brought a little smile to my face – how dare you run!).
But the third – this morning – was on my new baby! First damage. I feel like I need to hug the sweetie. Not crazy enough. (Well, maybe when you aren’t looking).
As we all have experienced, once you get over the fact you had an accident you immediately begin to dread the insurance, repair, being car-less, and paying the deductible. Not to mention a ding on your insurance policy. Who has time for that? I guess I will.
Drive gracefully, be careful, and damnit – pop that curb and run them down next time!!
